Jake and Amir: Hallie III = Brilliant!

Jake and Amir have just released a new episode, an extension of the Hallie series. To give a little background on the story, Amir thinks Jake's ex-girlfriend, Hallie, is cute. So he asks her out on a date the only way he knows how, by being an idiot. Amazingly it works. They go out on a date (we unfortunately don't get to see this) and Hallie III shows the aftermath of the date in the office. The surprise in this video is the character swap between Jake and Amir, with Jake becoming the annoying, attached "friend" (if you can call it that) and Amir becoming the mature, controlled, and irritated coworker. The result is comedic genius; you just can't help but admire their spot-on impressions of each other.

Psych Season 3 Episode 2!

The second episode of Psych Season 3 aired yesterday and it was another masterpiece from the folks over at USA. It seems like the writers are going to stick with their Season 3 formula and have more plot line and emotional drama than past seasons. This episode again featured Shawn’s mother; however, she seems like she will be an on/off character who shows up for a couple episodes here and there. The Shawn/Juliet rumors are again resurfaced after a scene where Shawn stares longingly at Juliet after kissing his “could have been” high school sweetheart. Police Chief Vick seems to have a reduced role this season, she said only a couple of lines in an entire 45 minute episode. And finally, who could forget the scene where Shawn lets it all out and expresses his feelings about Gus. Wow, what a show. I really hope this added drama is only temporary because I miss the added witty sarcasm from Shawn and Gus’ situational humor. Too much focus is put on Shawn’s father and his mother. James Roday (Shawn) and Dule Hill (Gus) are really what make the show funny.

Great YouTube Channels: kemlye1

One YouTube channel that I have subscribed to for quite some time is David Sides' kemlye1. David Sides is an African American pianist who plays hip-hop and popular songs on the piano. He has no formal training and plays by ear, formulating the notes, chords, and melodies of each song without the use of sheet music. There is one word to describe him: brilliant. As a piano player myself, I can't help but admire the beautiful harmonies he finds in seemingly uniform pop songs. His music attracts both classical and pop lovers alike, as both can enjoy and appreciate the feelings he invokes in his playing. If you haven't subscribed to David Sides' kemlye1 YouTube Channel, do so here:

Neuroscience or Engineering?

I have been debating on what subject I should major in. Neuroscience is a growing field with new discoveries being made every day. Also, I took Neuroscience 101 at Johns Hopkins taught by Professor Stewart Hendry, which was a fascinating class and Dr. Hendry was a great lecturer. It is a major that can prepare me for medical school if I choose to take that path. However, I am also interested in the field of engineering, particularly chemical and nanotechnology. The practical applications of these subjects are vast, ranging from medical to military. Engineering would also allow me to get a well paying job out of school. Nevertheless, I have come to the realization that I don't have the technical thinking necessary to succeed in engineering. My brother (an aerospace major) has advised me not to follow in his footsteps. A meticulous worker, he is great with computers and has the engineering mindset. On the other hand, I am more spontaneous, a quick thinker, but prone to mistakes at times. Though I am leaning towards neuroscience at the moment, the allure of chemical engineering and nanotechnology is quite attractive.

Pandemic 2 - Awesome online game

Lately I’ve been addicted to this highly addicting online game called Pandemic 2 by Crazy Monkey Games. Since I’m quite the biology aficionado, I am fascinated by the evolution of new diseases as they adapt to new environments and develop drug-resistivity. In this game, you play a disease, either a virus, bacteria, or parasite. Your goal is to wipe out the human population. Over time, you gather evolution points, which you can spend on different symptoms, resistances, and transmission methods. This is a relatively simple game that anyone can play and is literally the most addicting online flash game I’ve ever played. You can play it here:

College Spotlight: Johns Hopkins University

I have spent three summers on the Johns Hopkins campus: two summers with Johns Hopkins’ CTY program and one summer with their Pre-College Program. What can I say, I love this place. The campus is beautiful with red brick buildings and lush green quads. Access to Inner Harbor is easy, a short bus ride is all it takes to visit one of the greatest aquariums in the world, great seafood restaurants, and shops. The dorms here are awesome; Charles Commons is the newly built living quarters and the inside is like a 5-star hotel. There are restaurants, cafes, an extensive workout facility, conference rooms, and lounges. There are also the AMR dorms (your typical college dorm), Buildings A & B (four person suites) and the last one I’ve been to are the Homewood apartments, the nicest apartments on campus. But enough about the campus, the real reason why you want to come here are the academics. Johns Hopkins is the home to great medical, science, math, engineering, and international relations programs. Its medical school is ranked 2nd and all the laboratories have state of the art equipment and technology. Overall, this a great place to go to school, undergraduate or graduate. I hope that I will be able to attend JHU in the fall.

Tumblr loses blog site war!

I have decided to suspend my Tumblr site today, mostly because pales in comparison to blogger.com and wordpress.com. The professional sites look great on Tumblr, but you need to be proficient in Web Design to make a sweet site. Tumblr just doesn’t have the useful features that WordPress and Blogger do such as widgets and page elements. It also has really crappy templates to begin with and does not generate the amount of traffic that WordPress and Blogger attract. Overall, Tumblr is an adequate blogging site, but with WordPress and Blogger, it is unwise to choose Tumblr if you want to simple and user-friendly blog.
